For some reason this photo reminds me of Texas Chainsaw Massacre.
I lived in Iowa for two years, and this brings back memories. Wonderful picture, thank you.
Thanks for such a peaceful image.
Really nice, very good composition and great tones.
Thanks to everyone!
@ ANO: I thought it was a bit ominous due to the tone of it, but I didn't think of any particular movie.
@ anita: I see these all the time, so they always evoke a sense of "home" for me, but this one was just perfect. Yeah, it's flawed in that the ladder is broken in one spot and it's missing one blade, but that's why I thought it was perfect--the slight flaws add to the rustic feel. A lot of windmills around here are missing all the blades or the whole top, and those are just ugly. Also, I liked the fact that there was nothing in the background to detract from the simple beauty of the windmill.
@ standing under the sky: Thank you! I personally thought it was ominous, as if a dust storm or tornado was coming; sort of a "calm before the storm" kind of thing.
@ phil: Thanks!
To anyone who's interested in how I achieved this effect, check out this article I wrote for my photography teaching blog.
Thanks again!
the digital artifacting or noise in the sky is unfortunate but a moody shot anyhow...
Yes, that's what happens when you jack up the contrast. I actually like it for this old-fashioned kind of picture, but I could see it being a problem on other kinds of photos.
I'm going to hopefully recharge my batteries over the weekend. There won't be a new post until Tuesday.
Still great technology when maintained. And it can recharge batteries, too.
Definitely neato! I'm in limbo with my camera; the stupid cord that connects to the 'puter is not doing it's thing... Pouting! I'm pouting!
Wanna give me your two cents on my latest pointless pic, Kelly?
