Today is Maundy Thursday (or Holy Thursday), and a lot happened to Jesus on this day nearly 2000 years ago. It is the day he washed the Apostles' feet and commanded us to love one another, predicted Peter's denial, instituted the sacrament of holy communion (in the Last Supper), and the date when he was betrayed by Judas Iscariot through a kiss (probably the origin of the popular phrase "kiss of death"). But before his betrayal, he prayed to God the Father, asking him if there was any other way to save mankind. While perhaps to us the most dramatic moment is the moment of betrayal, I think that perhaps to Jesus it was his prayer in the Garden of Gethsemane, when he was literally sweating blood because of his anguish.
